Mobilegs

Balanced mobility

Some of our best insights come from direct experience. With Mobilegs, it was Jeff’s time on crutches. Instead of a painless experience, traditional crutches pushed back and forced the body into awkward positions. Alternatives were few, so our team set to work on a new option — one with a decidedly humanistic point of view.

TRUTH

Drawing on our knowledge of suspension, support, and movement, we were able to focus on the patient and design a device to fit the body, making it easier to engage with life and move pain-free.

BEAUTY

In an effort to remove any negative stigmas often associated with assistive mobility, its form was top of mind, purposefully designed with an athletic gear-like quality.

OUTCOME

The soft, articulated saddle, combined with its angled grip and rounded base, contours to the body and moves in tandem with each step, providing added comfort and eliminating secondary trauma to its user.

PUR

Bottle not necessary

Accessibility to clean drinking water was the fundamental purpose behind PUR. But just purifying ordinary tap water wasn’t enough. We wanted a system that could purify any water source, even a puddle on the street, yet was still intuitive and visually clean in its design. Our response? A customer-centric approach to filtration.

TRUTH

We brought reverse osmosis and instinctive human interfaces together to develop three solutions for filtration: a faucet mount, traveler, and hiker pump. Any time, any place — clean drinking water.

BEAUTY

Looking at functionality from all perspectives inspired its simplicity in not just design but use and installation. Each system is easy to install, use, remove, replace, and store.

OUTCOME

PUR’s streamlined design, instinctive interface, built-in monitoring system, and reverse osmosis technology makes the foundation of good health accessible to all.  If you’re traveling, hiking, or just sitting at home, drinking clean water no longer takes a bottle.

EMBODY

Good work starts with you

Lack of harmony between people and technology served as inspiration for Embody. The human form is made to move, but today’s devices encourage inaction. Too long, and the body is left stiff and tired. With the help of more than 20 physicians, we set out to determine if a chair could offer actual health benefits.

TRUTH

Using the principles of biophysics, physical therapy, ergonomics, and sight, we tore down the restrictive blueprint of classic office chairs and designed Embody to mimic the back, ribs, and spine of the human form.

BEAUTY

Most products hide technology. With Embody, we chose to put it on full display. Each healthful purpose was designed to become a part of the chair’s design aesthetic.

OUTCOME

TBD, TBD, and TBD comes together in an honest design — a design that not only neutralize stress and strain but adapts to body movement while improving posture, maximizing agility, and encouraging better respiration.

US CHAIR

Fit for active learning

When tapped to create simple, comfortable, and adaptable classroom seating, we opted to go right to the source: students. It didn’t take us long to realize where conventional chairs and desks fell shorts. Instead of passively sitting, the students often came together in small groups to learn collaboratively — but nothing was yet equipped for such flexibility.

TRUTH

Applying the science of design to today’s human behavior led to an active learning solution that supports a wide variety of applications for a more effective educational environment: Us.

BEAUTY

Large or small, formal or dynamic, Us had to fit naturally in any classroom setting, so it was designed to be completely adaptable, modifiable, durable, and stackable.

OUTCOME

With configurable arms, bases, upholstery, finishes, and accessories, like tablet arms, racks, and cup holders, Us works across virtually every learning environment. And its inherent flex back design, larger base, and ergonomic shell allows the chair to respond to movement, making for a more comfortable and agile sitting experience.

SPIRE

In sync with today’s lifestyle

We love our devices just as much as the next person. That’s why we chose to own the problem in our living spaces: out of sync with the digital world. Access to power outlets is often limited, inconveniently located, or completely blocked by furniture. So, could we develop a solution to make “plugging in” easier?

TRUTH

Our team went back to the core understanding of how we live today and began researching both current and future technology to design Spire, a transportable power source people would want and need.

BEAUTY

Power, light, and sound come together in a customizable and flexible modular unit, with optional Bluetooth speaker, LED lantern, and task lamp with cantilevered-arm.

OUTCOME

Standing just 30” in height, Spire provides surge-protected 120-volt power, with five grounded outlets and two 2.1 Amp 5-volt USB ports. And its sleek, hardworking design makes the system suitable for spaces as diverse as the dorm room to the boardroom.

ENVELOPe

Become one with the work

Our work on Embody got us thinking. The disconnect between the person and the surface can be just as problematic as the lack of harmony between the body and the chair. If we can design a chair to adapt to body movement, couldn’t we do the same for a desk? Everything would then work in tandem with one another.

TRUTH

A static surface forces a body to adapt to a space. It’s up to the person to stretch, lean, or hunch to interact with an object. A solution was needed to keep the body aligned with that object, but in a variety of healthy postures.

BEAUTY

Designed to respond to the user and support the wrist and forearm, Envelop slides forward 7 inches and pivots down 7 degrees, essentially “enveloping” the body to bring the computer and its components near.

OUTCOME

With a sliding, flexible support surface, contoured body pocket, and the option of pin-height or electric sit-to-stand legs, the Envelop desk expands its applications to fit virtually any user in any environment. Home or office, the body is kept in harmony with the activity, limiting back, neck, and shoulder strain.

CAPER

It’s all in the family

All too often, good design is expensive. So, we decided to challenge ourselves and create an affordable solution that could accommodate a variety of people in a variety of spaces — and for a variety of purposes. That meant the chair had to be not just comfortable but lightweight and portable.

TRUTH

Contoured for the human form with an arch and a give to encourage agile movement, Caper supports a broad range of activities. And the chair’s shape, frame, and weight make for space-efficient storage. It’s easily stackable.

BEAUTY

Caper is an expression of its performance. It’s designed to be simplistic, playful, and lyrical, allowing it to live anywhere in any environment. It’s light both visually and physically.

OUTCOME

Caper is more than a chair. It’s a family. With or without arms, on legs or a single swivel, our goal was to design one product with many uses. Multiple configurations expand the practical functions of its overall design.

INTERSECT

Come into the fold

The workplace continues to evolve, with many offices turning to more flexible layouts for greater collaboration among their staff. But few surfaces provide this same level of flexibility — a table is a table, a desk is desk. We wanted to develop a surface that could function on more than one level, yet was still honest and refined in its design: Intersect.

TRUTH

Observing modern workplaces, we saw the need to design a surface at the intersection of collaboration, interaction, and utility. It must support creative exchange and offer ease of storage when not in use.

BEAUTY

Based on the traditional gate table, the simple, elegant, and direct design of Intersect offers one surface with many possible applications. Use it in an office, conference room, or shared space; it works in array of settings.

OUTCOME

Intersect is just as adaptable in its design as its uses. With four available shapes, a wide range of surfaces, and its folding function, the table is easy to configure to the need — even if that need keeps changing. Plus, center cutout contains clutter by managing wires.
