PUR Explorer: Cleaner Water, Further
Clean water matters most where infrastructure disappears. The question was how to turn PUR's promise into a tool someone could carry, trust, and use in the field.

Beyond the Sink
The faucet-mounted PUR filter solved a household problem at the kitchen sink. The portable purifier asked a different question: how do you bring the same sense of trust to places where there is no kitchen, no plumbing, and no support system—only the person, the landscape, and the need for clean water?
Design for Real Places
This was a product for movement: backpacks, campsites, stream edges, travel, and everyday uncertainty. It had to be compact enough to carry, durable enough for rough handling, and clear enough to use without instruction-heavy complexity. In that context, reliability is not a luxury feature. It is the product.

Distill the System
The architecture was reduced to its essentials: a human-powered hand pump, a flexible hose, an intake filter, and a clean output path. The T-handle gives the user direct control. The cylindrical body is efficient to hold and pack. The hose and intake element let the purifier reach the water source without forcing the whole device into the stream. The result feels simple because the system was carefully edited.

Build to Learn
The development work shows a clear Studio Weber pattern: concept boards, orthographic studies, component breakdowns, product renderings, and use-case visualization all helped test what the object needed to be. Questions of form, grip, portability, hose management, intake geometry, and perceived trustworthiness were not separate. They evolved together. Observe → simplify → build → evaluate → refine.
Make Reliability Legible
A good outdoor tool should not feel mysterious. The PUR Explorer makes its logic visible. You can understand the role of the handle, the body, the hose, and the intake at a glance. The product communicates that it is ready for real use: simple enough to learn quickly, specific enough to trust, and robust enough to take seriously.
A PUR Language, Recast
Even in a new environment, the design carries forward a recognizable PUR sensibility: clean geometry, restrained surfaces, approachable form, and an emphasis on trust through clarity rather than visual noise. The product does not try to look tactical or overdesigned. It stays focused on what matters.

Outcome
The PUR Explorer extended the brand from the home into the landscape. It translated water purification from a domestic ritual into a portable act of self-reliance—a simpler, lighter, more human way to bring cleaner water further.
